The journey to Bailey & International Partners
Richard began his career in the US with Update Legal, a specialist legal search firm, where he learned the craft of placing lawyers. He went on to spend 8 years with the multinational recruiter Robert Walters, followed by 14 years as Managing Director of EMEA Recruitment.
Three organisations in 28 years have given him lasting relationships with law firms, managing partners and senior leaders across the UK, the Netherlands and the US.
He founded Bailey & International Partners to work the way he believes search should be done: personally, consultatively and with a long term view. Stepping away from the corporate world means he can give his full attention to the people he does his best work for, above all associates choosing their next move.
Alongside his search work, Richard has taken on board advisory responsibilities, which he takes seriously. If your business would value an experienced voice around the board table, drawing on his years of leading and growing a business, he would be glad to talk.
Why the Career Architect approach matters
Life has taught Richard that a career never stands apart from everything else. That conviction is where Career Architect begins.
The result is a placement that fits the person, the business and the moment.
For associates weighing partnership, and for professionals aiming for senior roles in business, Richard asks what each step means for family, health, time and ambition, so that progress at work never comes at the cost of everything else.
A job description sets out the technical skills a role needs, but says little about whether a person will thrive in it. Richard looks further: at the culture of the business, the stage a candidate has reached, and whether this is the right project at the right time.
Every candidate is referenced thoroughly. Richard looks beneath what they have achieved to how they have behaved, how they lead and manage people, and how they manage upwards and add value to senior management.
Outside work
Away from search, Richard’s world centres on his family: his wife Clare, their son Monty, and their two dogs, Frank and Sybil. He is closely connected to his local community, has served as Chair of Governors at his local primary school, chairs and organises local village events, and manages Monty’s team at the local cricket club. When time allows, you will find him on the course at The Leicestershire Golf Club.
He is a lifelong supporter of Leicester City and Leicester Tigers, and he brings the same values to his work as to his community: sustainability, diversity, mindfulness, and the belief that people are people first.
